About Bloomsdale

Bloomsdale sits in Ste. Genevieve County beside Establishment Creek, but the town's older name was La Fourche a Duclos - the fork of Duclos - after the French families who settled the area. The Janis and Du Clous families arrived around 1790 after leaving Ste. Genevieve, and their creeks still hold the first map. The post office name became Bloomsdale around 1870, with the story tying the final choice to a level dale surrounded by hills and a springtime landscape in bloom. A flour mill followed in 1897, and a bank opened in 1914. Bloomsdale is southeastern Missouri with French roots, creek names, and a town name that sounds like the land.
