Blue Island, IL

Blue Island is an older south-suburban city adjacent to Chicago. Its early growth was helped by an inn that sat better positioned for travel than Fort Dearborn-area settlement, even though it was a few miles farther from Chicago. The city developed with railroads, industry, churches, and dense neighborhoods, leaving a more urban feel than many suburbs. Blue Island has local newspapers, parks, youth sports, and a distinct civic identity. It feels working-class, historic, and closely connected to Chicago without disappearing into it.
