Bolinas is a small unincorporated coastal community in Marin County, close to San Francisco by distance but much farther by mood. It has Coast Miwok history, a compact downtown, Brighton Beach, Agate Beach tide pools, and the Bolinas Museum. Bolinas is also famously private-minded, with residents long resisting road signs that direct outsiders into town. The result is a rare Bay Area coastal place that feels deliberately hard to stumble into.
