About Bonneau Beach
Bonneau Beach is a Berkeley County census-designated place on the shore of Lake Moultrie, in the Santee-Cooper lake country north of Charleston. The 2020 census counted 1,982 residents. The community's map is mostly shoreline and residential roads, with the lake supplying the main visual and recreational reference. Nearby Bonneau is the incorporated town; Bonneau Beach has its own CDP boundary and a separate name. Lake Moultrie is the feature most people picture first, with shore roads and water access setting the pace.
Lake Moultrie brings boat ramps, fishing, swimming, and seasonal lake traffic into the local week, while Berkeley County roads connect the community to Bonneau, Moncks Corner, and the wider Lowcountry. The lake was created as part of the Santee-Cooper project, so this is a landscape shaped by engineered water as much as by old coastal geography. Bonneau Beach's local scoop is carried by the lake, the road network, and the nearby town; those three pieces do the organizing.
