About Boulder Flats
Boulder Flats is a census-designated place in Fremont County’s broad, open plain on the southern edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation, north of Lander along U.S. 287. The 2010 census counted 408 residents. Homes and roads spread across sagebrush, arid grass, and low rolling hills, with ranch country and reservation communities shaping the surrounding map. There is no incorporated downtown to gather the community into a single commercial street.
School boundaries provide one of the clearest local structures. Most of Boulder Flats lies in Fremont County School District 14, while a very small portion falls within District 21. That split sends some children and families toward different campuses and community routes. Ranch roads and reservation routes remain the main connectors for the scattered homes. County roads, reservation services, and trips to Lander or nearby Fort Washakie handle the practical needs that a town center would cover elsewhere. Boulder Flats is read through open space, school lines, and the long distances between services.
