Bowdon is a peaceful Carroll County town with a surprisingly rich history. Sitting near the Alabama state line, this quiet community of around 2,000 residents offers a relaxed pace of life framed by open pastures and rolling west Georgia countryside. Long before it became the rural haven it is today, Bowdon was home to Bowdon College, established in the 1850s as Georgia’s first coeducational college. Even though the school closed in 1936, that deep-seated local pride remains woven into the town's historic streets.
