Bowling Green grew from a homestead established by Chester of Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1883. Three years later he gave 40 acres to the Florida Southern Railway, and the rail line still passes through the area. Bowling Green remains part of the county school district, with the city’s history tied closely to the railroad’s continued presence.
