About Bowmans Addition
Bowmans Addition is a small Allegany County CDP just north of Cumberland, occupying a valley between Wills Mountain and Shriver Ridge. The name has an old paper trail: Maryland State Archives preserves a plat for Bowmans Cumberland Valley Addition, a reminder that this was once a named subdivision before it became a census place. The surrounding Cumberland valley supplies the roads, schools, and services, but Bowmans Addition has no separate downtown to orient you. Here the terrain does the introducing: a narrow western Maryland pocket held between two ridges, close to the city but distinct on the map.
