Braden, TN

Braden is a Fayette County town that began with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad's push toward Memphis in 1850. The town is named for Joseph P. Braden, and the McCraw family became closely tied to its commercial history; the 1909 C.T. McCraw building once housed the general store. The 2020 census counted 255 residents. Today Highways 59 and 70 meet at Braden in northwestern Fayette County, carrying local traffic through a landscape of farms, churches, and small crossroads.

Braden's tiny post office is one of its most recognizable civic places. It occupies a building about the size of a stock trailer, yet it continues to handle modern mail service for the town. Town Hall meetings are held on the first Thursday evening of each month, reflecting the practical scale of local government. The railroad depot that created Braden is gone from the everyday map, but its route survives in the town's location and road pattern. The store building, post office, highway intersection, and town hall together show how a railroad settlement remains a municipality after the railroad era has passed.
