Brady, NE

Sitting along the Platte River just east of North Platte, Brady is a quiet rural community of around 400 people. Its roots trace back to the 1860s, when hundreds of Union Pacific railroad workers set up a camp of tents and sod houses near the water. The area was originally known as Brady Island, named after a fur trapper who explored the valley before the tracks were laid. By the late 1880s, the camp had grown into an established town with long railside stockyards shipping cattle across the region.

Today, Brady is a relaxed agricultural town where neighbors know each other and life moves at an unhurried pace. The local K-12 school serves both the village and families living out by Jeffery Lake, a popular spot for fishing and boating just four miles to the south. With wide-open skies and a grounded community feel, it offers quiet country living within an easy twenty-minute drive of everyday conveniences in North Platte.
