About North Platte
North Platte is the county seat of Lincoln County in western Nebraska, established in 1866 when the Union Pacific Railroad reached the area. Railroading still matters here, and the city is also remembered for the North Platte Canteen, where volunteers served millions of troops passing through during World War II. The Lincoln County Historical Museum preserves that story. North Platte feels like a High Plains service city: railroad, highway, ranch country, and regional institutions all meeting at a practical stop between larger cities.
