Brady, WA

Brady sits in the Chehalis River valley in southeastern Grays Harbor County, between Montesano and Satsop. The 2020 census counted 692 residents. The first homesteads south of town belonged to the Smith, Twidwell, and Foster families, who arrived in the late nineteenth century when the river was the only practical route in and out. That detail still gives Brady its shape: roads follow a valley that water once controlled, and the wider community is spread among riverfront homes and wooded slopes rather than gathered around a dense downtown.

U.S. Route 12 now does the connecting, running through Brady and west toward Aberdeen while reaching Grand Mound and Olympia to the east. The Satsop River lies to the east, and the Chehalis carries the valley west toward Grays Harbor. Brady's story is therefore less about a single landmark than about movement through the rivers and the highway. It is a small place with a long memory of river travel, a modern road connection, and a location that keeps Aberdeen, Olympia, and the South Sound within the same working map.
