About Bridgeton
Bridgeton is the county seat of Cumberland County, set along the Cohansey River in South Jersey. Its name comes from its location at a bridge over the river, a shortening of Bridge Town. The city grew with glass factories, sewing factories, metalwork, and other industries, leaving behind an older working-city feel. Portions of Bridgeton are part of New Jersey's Urban Enterprise Zone program. It has historic buildings, county institutions, and a diverse population, with more grit and civic depth than many smaller South Jersey communities.
