Bridgewater, PA

Bridgewater is a Beaver County borough at the confluence of the Beaver and Ohio rivers, where the river towns crowd together and every direction seems to lead to a bridge. The permanent settlement dates to about 1798, and the community grew from the older towns of Sharon and Bridgewater. Aaron Burr built boat yards here in 1805 and 1806 while gathering supplies for his western expedition, and the Beaver and Erie Canal later reinforced the water connection. The borough's historic district still holds buildings from the early nineteenth century through the industrial age.

Bridgewater's modern local joke is sweeter: Bruster's Real Ice Cream began here in 1989, and the original store remains part of the borough's claim to fame. Boom on the Bridge, moved into the borough in 2025, brings music, river-town pride, and fireworks to the waterfront. Beaver Area School District serves local children, while Beaver, Rochester, and Pittsburgh fill out the broader work and shopping map. Bridgewater's local scoop is the combination of boat yards, canals, ice cream, and a river festival: a small borough with more than one reason to gather at the water.
