About Bridgewater

Bridgewater is a quiet farming community of around 450 residents in southwestern McCook County, South Dakota. Located about 40 miles west of Sioux Falls, it offers a peaceful, easygoing lifestyle surrounded by open prairie. The town took root in 1879 during the expansion of the Milwaukee Railroad. Local lore says it earned its name because early workers had to haul water across the countryside to supply the passing steam engines.
