Variant names were "Mount Zion and "Spring Creek. That mix gives Brinson a clear local shape within Georgia, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Simeon Brinson, an early postmaster and first mayor, gave the town its present name. U.S. Route 84 passes through the southwest side of the town, leading southeast 10 miles to Bainbridge, the Decatur County seat, and northwest 44 miles to Dothan, Alabama.
