Broad Creek, NC

Broad Creek is an unincorporated CDP on the north shore of Bogue Sound in west-central Carteret County. Broad Creek and Gales Creek mark its sides, Croatan National Forest presses in from the north, and NC 24 carries traffic east toward Morehead City and west toward Cape Carteret. The 2020 census counted 1,968 residents, and the community shares the Newport 28570 postal area. Across the sound, Bogue Banks separates the mainland water from the Atlantic. Broad Creek's everyday center is community-scale. The Broad Creek Community Building on Cactus Street serves as a local gathering and voting site, with Michael Joe Morton Memorial Park next door.

Broad Creek Middle School sits along NC 24, and homes spread through subdivisions and side roads between the sound and the forest. The water, highway, school, and community building provide local bearings. Broad Creek is a coastal neighborhood with a distinct geographic frame, tied to the larger Newport and Morehead City area by one busy mainland route.
