About Brook
Brook is a Newton County town in Iroquois Township, about four miles west of Interstate 65. The 2020 census counted 939 residents. Its town plat dates to 1866, while the post office has operated there since 1859, so Brook’s local story predates the highway that now gives the community its quickest regional connection. The town lies in the agricultural country of northwest Indiana, with Kentland serving as the South Newton Schools center for kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Brook-Iroquois Township Public Library supplies a local civic stop, and the Iroquois Conservation Club holds an annual fishing contest for children under 16 and their parents. Those two institutions add distinct local routines: one keeps books and local information in town, the other brings families to an ongoing outdoor tradition. Brook’s older buildings and post-office history sit alongside the library, school bus routes, and the interstate connection, making it a small town organized around both its own institutions and the larger Newton County road network.
