Brookfield, MO

Brookfield is a Linn County city of 4,111 residents in the 2020 census, surveyed in 1859 by John Wood Brooks. Four street names - John, Wood, Brooks, and Boston - still carry the surveyor's name through the grid. The city sits in north-central Missouri with a school, library, historic museum, and a downtown that becomes a staging ground for one of the region's most recognizable annual events. Brookfield R-III runs elementary, middle, high school, and career-center programs, while the Tillman House museum holds railroad, school, music, and Linn County collections. Every Labor Day weekend, the Great Pershing Balloon Derby fills the fields west of town and ties Brookfield to Pershing State Park and the area's ballooning tradition.
