About Brooklyn
Brooklyn is a Windham County town incorporated in 1786 and named for the Quinebaug River, or “Brook Line,” along its eastern edge. It became the county seat in 1819, and the courthouse and large homes around the center still reflect that period. The Brooklyn Fair traces its roots to an agricultural gathering in 1809 and continues at its Route 169 fairgrounds; the Windham County Agricultural Society also maintains the state’s only operating harness racetrack. Brooklyn is an eastern Connecticut town where county history and farm tradition meet the Quinebaug.
