Brooklyn, IA

Brooklyn is a Poweshiek County city just off US 6 and a few miles north of I-80, with BGM Community School District at the center of its local map. BGM's one-level campus serves students from pre-K through 12th grade and also reaches Guernsey, Malcom, and the rural countryside around them. The city has one radio station, and its downtown flag display gathers the 50 state flags alongside military and other banners. That combination gives Brooklyn a recognizable civic shorthand: one school campus, one radio voice, and a whole row of flags near the middle of town. It is a central Iowa place with a wider school district than its city limits suggest.
