About Brooks

Brooks is a Marion County census-designated place nine miles north-northeast of Salem, on the French Prairie of the Willamette Valley. The Southern Pacific Railroad station was named for early settler Linus Brooks, who came from Illinois in 1850. The old Brooks depot now sits at Powerland Heritage Park, alongside transport museums and the Brooks Historical Society. Oregon Route 99E runs through the community, with farmland shaping the surrounding map. Brooks is a Willamette Valley place where a railroad name found a second life in a depot museum.
