Bruning, NE

Bruning is a quiet, friendly village of fewer than 300 people in southeastern Nebraska. Founded as a railroad stop in the late 1800s, the community retains a classic small-town atmosphere where neighbors know each other by name. Daily life centers around the local school system, which Bruning shares with nearby Davenport. Bruning hosts both the early elementary classes and the high school, giving families plenty of reasons to gather for Friday night ball games, school concerts, and town events.

Just northeast of the village lies an interesting piece of local history. During World War II, the surrounding farmland was home to Bruning Army Air Field, where military pilots trained before heading overseas. The base has long since returned to open crop fields, with a roadside historical marker preserving the memory. Today, Bruning offers a relaxed, steady pace of life shaped by its agricultural roots, open prairie skies, and strong sense of community.
