Brunswick is a Columbus County town about four miles from Whiteville, with a compact footprint and a history tied to the timber economy. A 1948 county directory dates the town's founding to 1925, when several hundred people lived in a place that also supported Brunswick Supply Company, described then as one of the county's notable rural businesses. As the lumber industry declined, the population fell, but the town's name stayed on the map.
