Brushy Creek, TX

Brushy Creek is an unincorporated Williamson County suburb on the west side of Round Rock, built in several neighborhood clusters around the creek that gives it its name. Great Oaks Drive and O'Connor Drive connect much of the southern area to RM 620, while Sam Bass Road and FM 1431 frame neighborhoods farther north. The census place is not a city, and Round Rock addresses are common. Curving residential streets, schools, neighborhood shopping, drainage greenbelts, and oak-lined creek bottoms define the physical pattern, with larger employment and retail centers reached in Round Rock, Cedar Park, or along the broader north Austin corridor.

Much of Brushy Creek's everyday government comes from the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District. It began as Williamson County MUD No. 2 in 1977, expanded south of the creek in 1983, and took its present name in 1990. The district now covers about 2,300 acres in two noncontiguous sections, all within Round Rock's extraterritorial jurisdiction. An elected board oversees water, wastewater, drainage, parks, and recreation, giving residents a local institution with narrower powers than a city. Water comes from a combination of district wells and Lake Georgetown supplies treated at the Sam Bass Road facility, while regional partnerships handle wastewater.

The district's recreation system gives the scattered subdivisions a shared set of meeting places. The Community Center on Great Oaks Drive has more than 65,000 square feet with gyms, an indoor track, fitness and meeting rooms, courts, and youth spaces. Four pools and parks such as Cat Hollow, Creekside, Sendero Springs, and Shirley McDonald Park spread programs through the neighborhoods. Local greenbelts connect with the Brushy Creek Regional Trail, whose county-built segment runs 6.75 miles from Great Oaks Drive toward US 183. Cat Hollow Park hosts the annual Hairy Man Festival; the 32nd edition was scheduled for October 2026 with music, food, games, costumes, and the namesake contest. That combination of special-district government, neighborhood recreation, and creekside trails gives Brushy Creek a civic identity that is stronger than its unincorporated status might suggest.
