About Buena Vista

Buena Vista is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Buena Vista Charter Township, east of Saginaw and largely west of Interstate 75. The 2020 census counted 5,855 residents in the CDP. Its boundaries sit inside a township shaped by several eras of work: forests were cleared for timber, farmland spread across the area, and the former General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear complex—now Nexteer Automotive—helped change the industrial landscape. Freeway and commercial development later added another layer. The township's roads meet Saginaw's industrial and school corridors.

Township routines now gather around the community center and two parks, with the Town Green on South Outer Drive serving as the site of the annual Twilight Movie Night. The 2024–28 recreation plan records basketball leagues, summer programming, and a multi-use community center, while Saginaw City School District covers most of the CDP and Bridgeport-Spaulding serves portions south of Hess Avenue. Buena Vista is a place where township government, Saginaw's edge, industrial history, and school boundaries overlap.
