Buffalo Springs Lake, TX

Buffalo Springs Lake is a lakeside community in Lubbock County, about nine miles southeast of Lubbock on Farm Road 835. The reservoir lies on the Double Mountain Fork Brazos River in the Llano Estacado, where a broad, dry plain meets a man-made shoreline. Lubbock County’s water district acquired land around the lake in 1957 to create a community recreation center, and the surrounding village grew around that water-based use. The lake gives the place its name, its address, and its main visual feature.

Today the community’s rhythm follows the lake: boating, fishing, swimming areas, shoreline homes, campsites, and weekend gatherings. Lubbock supplies the larger network of schools, jobs, shopping, medical care, and entertainment, while Roosevelt Independent School District serves local students. Roads across the prairie connect the lake to Lubbock and nearby farm communities, with cotton fields and broad skies beyond the shore. Buffalo Springs Lake is a West Texas recreation neighborhood built around a reservoir, where the water interrupts an otherwise open landscape and makes a small settlement feel like a destination.
