Bunker Hill, IN

Bunker Hill is a Miami County town in Pipe Creek Township, platted in 1851 by James Myers, John Duckwall, and Alexander Galbraith. The 2020 census counted 814 residents. Pipe Creek runs along the north side toward the Wabash River, and the town sits in southern Miami County east of U.S. 31 and near State Road 19. A post office opened in 1859, tying the settlement to the road and mail network that shaped its early years.

Two very different kinds of movement define Bunker Hill today. Maconaquah School Corporation and Maconaquah High School serve the surrounding area, with the high school's band a visible local institution. The town also sits near Grissom Air Reserve Base, Grissom Air Museum, the Bunker Hill Drag Strip, and Bunker Hill Speedway; the Nickel Plate Trail adds a former rail route to the local recreation map. Bunker Hill's name suggests a battlefield, but its current landmarks point to school, aviation, racing, and trail use in a town connected to several regional systems.
