Bunkie, LA

Located in the heart of Avoyelles Parish, Bunkie is an easygoing small town of about 3,300 residents with deep roots in farming and the railroad. It even got its unusual name from the childhood nickname of an early founder's daughter. Today, life here moves at a relaxed pace, with quiet neighborhoods, locally owned shops, and open farmland stretching out past the city limits. It gives newcomers a close-knit, central Louisiana feel with easy travel along Highway 71 and nearby Interstate 49.

Every June, the whole community gathers for the Louisiana Corn Festival, which fills the weekend with live music, street dancing, parades, and pirogue races. Those traditional wooden canoes highlight the bayou heritage that runs alongside the town's agricultural background. It is a welcoming spot where neighbors quickly learn your name and local celebrations bring everyone together over great food and good company.
