About Burlington
Burlington is a Milam County census-designated place on U.S. 77, about ten miles north of Cameron. John and Michael Jones built cabins there around 1867, when the settlement was known as Irish Settlement. A post office opened at Timothy Gleason's home, the name shifted through Waterford to Burlington, and the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway arrived in 1891. The line once carried cattle, cotton, and lumber to larger markets; today the community's schools are divided between Rosebud-Lott and Cameron districts.
