Burnet is a city and the county seat of Burnet County, Texas, situated thirty-six miles west of Georgetown. Named after David G. Burnet, the first president of the Republic of Texas, the city of approximately 6,732 features a historic downtown square dating from the 1880s. Public education is served by the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District.
