About Burns City

Burns City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Perry Township, Martin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The 2020 census counted 114 residents. The town was founded as "Keck's Church" in 1849 by Christian Keck, an early settler. Burns City became known as "Kecksville" circa 1852. That mix gives Burns City a clear local shape within Indiana, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Burns City is bordered to the east by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division.
