Burnt Mills, MD

Burnt Mills is a census-designated place in Montgomery County, Maryland, situated near Silver Spring. Originally the site of a colonial grist mill, the community of approximately 3,751 became a key regional water source in 1929 when the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission constructed a water filtration plant and dam along the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River. Public education is served by Montgomery County Public Schools.
