About Burt

Burt is a Saginaw County census-designated place in Taymouth Township, built around the railroad settlement named for Wellington R. Burt. The Cincinnati, Saginaw and Mackinaw Railroad reached the village in 1888 after Burt helped arrange the line, and the Burt Opera House opened in 1891. The hall hosted vaudeville, weddings, local fairs, township meetings, and elections, giving the settlement a civic room with an unusually varied past. Burt himself was a Saginaw lumber, salt, mining, railroad, and banking figure. The ZIP code reaches beyond the CDP into nearby parts of Taymouth, Albee, and Spaulding townships, so the postal community is wider than the statistical place.
