Burton, OH

Burton is a Geauga County village and one of the oldest settlements in Ohio's Connecticut Western Reserve. The community was founded in 1798, and the 2020 census counted 1,407 residents. Its town square follows the New England village-green pattern brought by settlers from Connecticut, giving the center a shape that still feels deliberate when the surrounding roads are busy. Burton is part of the Cleveland metro, but the square, surrounding townships, and farm country keep a strong local scale.

Century Village Museum is Burton's signature institution, with nineteenth-century buildings moved from around the county and maintained by the Geauga County Historical Society. The village is also home to the Geauga County Fair, an annual event with roots reaching back to Ohio's agricultural societies and fair tradition. Berkshire High School sits just north of the square, and Berkshire Local School District serves Burton and several surrounding townships. Put those pieces together and Burton has a clear local rhythm: historic buildings, a school district spread across rural roads, a town green at the center, and a county fair that brings the wider Geauga community into the village each year.
