About Bushton

Bushton is a city in Rice County, Kansas, United States. The 2020 census counted 203 residents. Bushton was originally called Sorghum, and under the latter name established in the early 1880s. Bushton was renamed Bushton in 1887, after a number of wild bushes growing at the town site. Central Plains Middle School was located in Bushton, but closed in 2019. That mix gives Bushton a clear local shape within Kansas, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present.
