About Butler Beach

Butler Beach is a census-designated place in St. Johns County, Florida, situated on Anastasia Island within the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Established by African American businessman and political activist Frank B. Butler, the community of approximately 4,610 originated as the only beach resort open to Black tourists between Jacksonville and Daytona Beach during segregation. The historic resort site is now featured on the St. Johns County Black History Trail.
