Camden, NC

Camden is the small county-seat community on the eastern bank of the Pasquotank River, directly across from Elizabeth City. The 2020 census counted 620 residents. US 158 and NC 343 meet here, and the place has just two traffic lights, a detail that says a lot about its scale. Camden County's unified government shares the community's compact center, so the courthouse, schools, and county services sit close together. The coastal plain and nearby Great Dismal Swamp Canal widen the story beyond the intersection. The river is the local backdrop, but Camden's everyday life runs through roads and institutions.

CamTech Early College gives the county-seat map a modern school presence, while the Camden County Heritage Museum and Historic Jail keep older stories close to the center. The river does most of the scenic work. Elizabeth City is across the water for bigger errands, and the highway bridge makes that connection easy. Camden is a small northeastern North Carolina center where county government, river traffic, and two-lane roads meet.
