Camden Point, MO

Camden Point is a Platte County city of 457 residents in the 2020 census, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area but set in a small rural landscape north of the river bottoms. A post office has operated here since 1837, and the name Camden likely came from an English place name, with Point added to distinguish it from another Missouri Camden. The city occupies only about six-tenths of a square mile, so the old post-office crossroads still gives the place much of its scale.

Camden Point has a longer school history than its size suggests. A girls' academy began early in the county's history, and the Orphan School opened in 1867, later becoming a school for local children and orphans. Today North Platte County R-I runs North Platte Elementary in town, while the Mid-Continent Public Library, post office, greenhouse, and small businesses keep the center in use. Camden Point lost some of the stores and dealerships that once lined its streets, but the city remains a local stop between Platte City, the Kansas City region, and the farms of northern Platte County.
