Camp Croft, SC

Camp Croft is a Spartanburg County community built around the memory of a World War II Army training camp. The base trained infantry replacements from 1941 to 1946, and it also held prisoners of war during the war years. The former reservation was later divided among new uses, with part becoming Croft State Park in 1949 and another part developing into residential neighborhoods. Fairforest Creek runs through the area, while Spartanburg is about five miles northwest. The local shorthand is military history, a state park carrying the old camp name, and a South Carolina place where wartime land became present-day neighborhoods.
