Wofford College sits just north of downtown and Converse University lies directly to the east, lending beautiful tree-lined campuses and youthful energy to adjacent residential streets. Moving further into Spartanburg County opens up newer suburban subdivisions, family-friendly master-planned communities, and scenic rural acreage.

Spartanburg earned its nickname, the Hub City, back in the nineteenth century when multiple railroad lines converged here to ship Upstate cotton and goods nationwide. A massive textile boom followed, leaving behind sturdy brick architecture and distinct mill villages that still define parts of the local streetscape. While the textile era has passed, many of those historic structures have found new life as loft apartments, creative offices, and local breweries. Longstanding institutions like Wofford and Converse helped anchor the community through economic transitions, creating a city that honors its industrial roots while steadily modernizing.

Today's local economy is driven by strong healthcare and education networks alongside world-class manufacturing. Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System serves as one of the area's largest employers, complemented by universities, school districts, and thriving local small businesses. Across the broader county, major automotive, advanced materials, and logistics hubs thrive along the I-85 and I-26 corridors, making for easy regional commutes to places like the BMW plant or nearby Greenville. Closer to home, getting around on foot or by bike gets easier every year, especially along the Mary Black Rail Trail and the expanding Daniel Morgan Trail System, which connects neighborhoods, parks, and downtown coffee shops.
