Campbellsburg, KY

Campbellsburg is a home-rule city in Henry County, along U.S. 421 in northwestern Kentucky. The 2020 census counted 836 residents. Kentucky State Police Post 5 is based in town, and local businesses, city offices, and rural roads serve the farms and small communities around the Henry County line. Interstate 71 is about nine miles away at Exit 34, putting Campbellsburg on a direct route toward Louisville and northern Kentucky.

The legislature incorporated the town in 1840 as Chiltonsville, honoring trustee Charles J. Chilton, then changed the name to Campbellsburg within three weeks for another local family. The nearby Benevola post office adopted the new name that same year. The Louisville, Cincinnati and Lexington Railroad arrived in 1869, splitting the town into Old and New Campbellsburg; the two sections eventually merged. A 1974 tornado destroyed much of the central business district, which was rebuilt and left the city with a visible preservation thread alongside its rural working map. The rebuilt core still carries that history.
