About Campo Seco

Campo Seco is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Calaveras County, California, situated at an elevation of 564 feet. Founded by Mexican miners in 1849, the Gold Rush-era mining camp was a notably diverse settlement with forty different nationalities represented. A fire nearly destroyed the town in 1854, but the community was rebuilt while placer mining remained active. The settlement is served by ZIP code 95226.
