About Candlewood Shores
Candlewood Shores is a private residential community and census-designated place on the east shore of Candlewood Lake in Brookfield. Ralph and Raymond Reynolds developed it in 1948 as a summer community, and the lake itself is a 1920s man-made reservoir built for pumped-storage power. The neighborhood eventually took over its own beach, ball field, roads, and water system through a tax district, which is a lot of local infrastructure for a place known mainly by its shoreline. Candlewood Shores is western Connecticut in a lake-and-tax-district shape.
