Cane Beds, AZ

Cane Beds is a Mohave County community four miles south of the Utah line, in the Arizona Strip beneath the Vermilion Cliffs. The name is literal: early settlers found beds of wild cane, while the Southern Paiute name for the area translates as "cane valley." Mormon pioneers established the community in 1868, and the place sat along the trail between Lees Ferry and the temple in southern Utah. Today the Virgin River country brings hikers, Utah connections, and a high-desert landscape that feels more borderland than county seat. Cane Beds is northern Arizona in a canyon-and-cross-state story.
