Cape Vincent sits at the northwest tip of Jefferson County, where Lake Ontario opens into the St. Lawrence River. The town and its village share a water-bound map: farmland and roads behind them, Canada across the river, and Tibbetts Point Lighthouse at the meeting of lake and river. Onondaga people used this area as hunting grounds before French missionaries and traders arrived.
