Cardington, OH

Cardington is a village in Morrow County, on the Whetstone River and U.S. 42 north of Mount Gilead. Its post office dates to 1827, and the name came from the carding machine used in the village's first industrial operation, an unusually literal bit of local naming. Schooling has been part of the town's story almost from the beginning: an organized school was meeting in a log cabin by 1823, followed by another log school near the river and railroad, then the Union School in 1868. Cardington-Lincoln Local School District now serves Cardington and Fulton along with parts of six townships, and the village has manufacturing employers including Cardington Yutaka Technologies and Adelet. It is a small Central Ohio village with a practical connection to Mount Gilead, the county seat, and a history that runs from a carding machine to modern classrooms and manufacturers.
