About Carefree
Carefree is a small, upscale town in far northeast metro Phoenix, north of both Phoenix and Scottsdale and next to Cave Creek. It was conceived in the mid-1950s by K.T. Palmer and Tom Darlington as a master-planned desert community, then incorporated in 1984 to avoid annexation by Scottsdale. Black Mountain rises near the town, and the Carefree Sundial gives its plaza a memorable landmark. The place is residential, residential, and intentionally low-key.
