Carlock, IL

Carlock began as Oak Grove and shifted toward the railroad in the late 1870s; the village was established in 1888. That move gave the McLean County community its basic shape, with East Washington Street, Jefferson Street, the library, and the park forming a compact center. The railroad is no longer the whole story, though its arrival still sits underneath the town's layout. Carlock's local history lives in those small changes: a place renamed, replatted, and kept in motion by the people who stayed.

Rock Creek Veterans Park at the south end of Jefferson Street is where the big gatherings land, from parades and food vendors to historical tours and the opening of a 1976 time capsule in 2026. The Carlock Public Library at 202 East Washington began in a former bank building, expanded into the former Stevens Grocery next door, and now carries a bookcase mural created through a local remodeling effort. The twice-monthly community market and regular village board meetings keep the calendar practical. Carlock feels like a village where the old railroad footprint, a veterans park, and a library still fit within a few blocks.
