Carolina, RI

Carolina is a quiet historic mill village along the Pawcatuck River in southern Rhode Island, sitting right on the border between Richmond and Charlestown. The community centers along Route 112 as it crosses the river, connecting historic houses, classic stone bridges, and the old mill pond. The village took shape in the early 1800s around a local gristmill and textile factory, with the mill standing on the Richmond side while worker homes spread into Charlestown. That split heritage is still a defining feature of the area today.

Living in Carolina offers a relaxed, rural pace with plenty of New England character. Wooded properties and preserved 19th-century homes rise up along both sides of the river valley, giving the neighborhood a scenic, tucked-away atmosphere. Preserved landmarks like the historic Bell Schoolhouse highlight the area's deep roots, while nearby woods and waterways give residents great spots for paddling, fishing, and hiking close to home.
